Layered Surfaces Need a Plan
Stripping painted wallpaper is harder than stripping paper alone, since the paint seals the surface and stops steam or stripping solution getting through. We assess each wall individually and choose scoring, steaming or chemical stripping accordingly, rather than applying one method regardless of what is actually on the wall.
What Happens Underneath Matters
Once the old layers are off, the wall underneath is rarely perfect - expect some filler and crack repair and a full surface sanding and prep pass before any new paint or paper goes on. We build this into the quote from the outset so there are no surprises partway through.

How do you know whether to steam or use chemical stripper?
It depends on the paper and paint type - we test a small area first and choose the method that lifts it cleanly without damaging the plaster.
Is stripping messy?
It can generate some debris and dust, which is why we sheet the room fully and clean up thoroughly at the end of each day.
Can new wallpaper go straight back up after stripping?
Only once the wall is repaired, primed where needed and fully dry - we will advise on timing.
